Thank You to Our Summer Engineering Interns!

At Marine Solutions, we focus on the development and education of our interns. We provide training and mentoring from senior engineers so that our interns are given the opportunity to perform many of the same duties as our Project Engineers. Our interns are significant members of our project teams, traveling, performing fieldwork and a variety of tasks, so that they can fully experience our unique service areas and career paths. It is our hope that armed with this knowledge and experience our interns can make an informed decision on their ultimate career path and in turn begin their chosen career on sound footing.
 
This summer we had three incredible engineering interns, Nick Clark, Ilana Shmukler, and Brian Wulfeck. 
 
Nick worked out of our Kentucky office this entire year and traveled throughout Kentucky and Maryland to perform the following work on 13 projects:

• Above and below water structural inspection of waterfront facilities by foot, wading, and kayaking
• Inspection report writing
• AutoCAD drafting
• MathCAD calculation worksheet production for seawall design
• Assisting with the development of our new in-house Marine Solutions Inspection apps

Clients: U.S. Navy, Maryland Transportation Authority, Thorntons Inc.
Key project: U.S. Naval Academy and Naval Support Activity Annapolis Waterfront Facility Inspections

Ilana worked out of our Maryland office this summer and traveled throughout Maryland and to Delaware to perform the following work on 10 projects:

• Above and below water structural inspection of bridges by foot and from a bridge inspection truck (aka Snooper)
• Confined space structural inspection of underground continuous culverts
• Structural inspection of waterfront piers
• Hydrographic surveys
• Inspection report writing

Clients: US Army Corps of Engineers, US Navy, Maryland Transportation Authority
Key project: Chesapeake Bay Bridge Underwater Inspection

Brian worked out of our Kentucky office this summer and traveled throughout Maryland and Virginia to perform the following work on 5 projects:

• Above and below water structural inspection of waterfront facilities by foot and wading
• Shoreline surveying with Rover equipment to obtain cross section data for shoreline monitoring
• Inspection report writing
• AutoCAD drafting

Clients: U.S. Navy, Norfolk Southern
Key project: Naval Weapons Station Yorktown Waterfront Facility Inspections
 
Our summer interns were a fantastic addition to our family and will be missed. We look forward to their future accomplishments!
