Underwater Quality Assurance Inspection
Battery Park City Authority New York, NY Battery Park City, a 92-acre planned community at the southwestern tip of Manhattan, includes 1.2 miles of pile-supported esplanade along the eastern shore of the Hudson River. A multi-phase pile remediation project is ongoing to protect the concrete piles from deterioration. To protect the piles from degradation, the concrete piles are being encapsulated by installing fiberglass-formed, epoxy grout-filled jackets for the full length of all piles within the contract limits. Repairs to the steel sheet pile bulkhead involve encasement of the sheeting with formed grout. Marine Solutions provided quality assurance (QA) underwater inspection services through Phases 3, 4, 5, and 6 for the multi-phased pile remediation plan. Inspection services were performed to ensure that all repairs were installed in accordance with design parameters and to verify the quality of workmanship. Each repair was inspected four times during construction to determine that each phase of repair was completed satisfactorily. Marine Solutions was responsible for providing approval for each phase of construction subsequent to the contractor beginning the next phase. Per the contract requirements, inspection dives were performed by a NY-licensed PE Diver or performed with real-time underwater video monitored by the PE Diver Team Leader. |
