Marine Solutions performed the routine and in-depth (Level III) inspections of the bridge substructure units for the identification and documentation of the extensive cracking. Detailed mapping of the cracking at each of the piers was performed. The in-depth inspections included 4 inch diameter core samples up to 80 feet long drilled through the pier footings to bedrock. An overall assessment of each pier was then completed to prioritize the sequence of rehabilitation for the substructure units.
Subsequently, as part of the construction repair team with Corman Marine Construction, Inc., Marine Solutions performed the underwater inspections and underwater construction for the repairs. Marine Solutions provided a construction team equipped with mixed gas diving and decompression systems to maximize diver productivity for the two year underwater project. Experienced divers and bridge inspectors were utilized to conduct inspections, verify actual constructed conditions, and assist with design modifications as the substructures were excavated underwater. |
