Leaving our world a little better than we found it is a philosophy we have always tried to embrace. Much of our work is conducted underwater – an environment that can be dirty and dangerous. We have seen firsthand the effects that pollution has had at our work sites, the effects that climate change and rising sea waters have had on our coastal cities. We have seen how energy usage can be more efficient at our job sites and in our offices.
We are researching ways to make our offices more "green" using building/equipment alternatives. We also actively participate in keeping our community clean through River Clean Ups and Beach Sweeps.
At Marine Solutions, we use the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure's Envision Design guidelines as part of our standards to ensure we are making sustainable design choices from the inception of the project. This helps us ensure that from start to finish we are doing everything we can to maintain sustainability through the infrastructure projects that we work on. Envision is a framework developed by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. Envision sets the standard for what qualifies as sustainable infrastructure. The framework and guidance materials allow designers clear-cut criteria for making cost effective choices that benefit both stakeholders and the surrounding community. Envision not only asks, are we doing the project right, but also are we doing the right project?
