DESCRIPTION: 
Marine Solutions is seeking a Project Engineer to join our growing team! Work includes performing a variety of engineering duties involved with field inspections, design, construction, report preparation, review and/or inspection of civil work projects or other closely related work. Work is performed under the direction of a Project Manager, Senior Project Engineer, or higher, or an administrative superior who makes assignments, provides guidance, and reviews work to ensure that it is completed according to instructions and in accordance with acceptable principles and practices of civil engineering. Incumbents are rotated to different sections, positions, or assignments to gain a broad understanding of civil engineering in the departments. Duties of a more technical nature may be assigned on a temporary basis as needed to meet the workload of a variety of sections.

Responsibilities will include: 
  • Under direction of a higher level engineer, inspects or performs evaluations of structures in compliance with established inspection programs and prepares appropriate reports; calculates and verifies pay quantities for contracted services. 
  • Under the direction of higher level engineers incumbents may perform the following functions: Inspections, performs layout, drafting and design work on a variety of inspections and civil engineering projects. Depending on area to which assigned, may design bridges and marine and other structures.
  • Prepares and reviews engineering plans, reports, studies, and related documents.
  • Prepares portions of engineering plans, reports or studies for existing or proposed capital improvement projects or operational concerns; performs and reviews calculations or routine work of others.
  • Assists with review of development projects for compliance with county ordinances, state and federal statutes and regulations, adopted standards or county policy.
  • Requests, performs, or directs the testing of materials and interprets results to ensure compliance with project specifications; prepares written reports and recommends alternatives when necessary.
  • Participates in technical review meetings with engineering and planning staff.
  • Knowledge of the current literature, trends, and developments in the field of engineering, and the ability to keep current with new developments.
  • Construction basics (concrete, steel, carpentry, welding, fabricating, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A four-year degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or closely related field. In addition, the Project Engineer should have the following qualifications:
  • Higher level mathematics, including trigonometry, algebra, geometry, and calculus, and its application to surveying and engineering computations.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Physically perform the essential job functions.
  • Complete tasks assigned.
  • Be a self-starter and able to work as independently as possible.

REQUIRED:
  • BS in Engineering from an accredited institution. 
  • Engineer in Training (EIT)/Fundamentals of Engineering (FE).

PREFERRED:
  • AutoCAD proficiency.
  • 10hr OSHA General Construction Course.

ELIGIBILITY:
All employees must pass a pre-employment drug screen as well as random tests throughout employment. The employee will also need Certificates in CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, and Emergency Oxygen.
